Akira Amari Senior Advisor

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1949, Akira Amari graduated from Keio University’s Faculty of Law in 1972 and began his career at Sony Corporation. He entered politics in 1983, winning his first election to the House of Representatives, and went on to serve for 42 years across 13 consecutive terms.
Over the course of his political career, he held numerous key positions, including Minister of Labour, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Minister for Economic Revitalization, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Policy Research Council, Chairman of the LDP Tax System Research Council, and Secretary-General of the LDP.
As Minister for Economic Revitalization from 2012, Mr. Amari was a central figure in shaping and implementing the economic policy package known as "Abenomics." He also led negotiations with the United States and other countries on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), playing a critical role in bringing the landmark trade agreement to fruition.
In the field of economic security, he played a key strategic role within the LDP, serving as Head of the Headquarters for Economic Security Promotion and Chair of the Diet Member Caucus on Semiconductor Strategy. He currently continues to serve as Honorary Chair of the caucus, along with other key roles.
