Polaris Capital Group K.K. (Polaris) is celebrating its 20th anniversary since its establishment on September 13, 2004 as a full-fledged private equity fund management company, and has established investment funds with a cumulative total of 350 billion yen through five rounds of domestic and international fund raising. As of April 2024, we have made 43 investments in Japanese companies, mainly in management buyouts, including privatizations, divestitures of subsidiaries and business divisions from large companies, and succession of owner-operated businesses, as well as equity investments and support for corporate value enhancement. We actively invested in Japanese companies that have global growth opportunities based on a stable revenue base: (1) technology and manufacturing companies with globally competitive technologies and patents, (2) medical, healthcare, and welfare businesses that have ESG (social contribution) perspectives such as social security and aging-related issues and are expected to grow in the future, (3) IT, services and logistics companies that create new value and have growth potential in the future, and (4) Consumer goods and retail companies that have established strong brands and unique structures in Japan and have potential for global expansion. In particular, we intend to expand into growth buyouts as well as traditional leveraged buyouts in the healthcare and technology sectors.
There are many Japanese enterprises which have not yet realized their full potential due to legacy issues or constraints. Polaris wishes to work with such Japanese companies as a sponsor and assist them to overcome these obstacles and increase their corporate value through the promotion of Business Model Innovation in terms of digital transformation and ESG perspectives, in addition to streamlining business structure, improving management effectiveness and strengthening the company’s financial position. In terms of regional coverage, being Japan’s only private equity firm with an office in Osaka, Polaris intends to identify and pursue investment opportunities in the Kansai area. On the overseas front, Polaris intends to support the global expansion of its portfolio companies through its Singapore subsidiary.
